My Perspective.
In class we filled out a graph that had 4 different sides. Give people power, keep power from the people, strong federal government, states rights were the 4 different sides. I put myself in the corner to give people the power and the states rights. I put myself here because I feel that the people are the reason we have a government and that the people should be the ones to control the government. I also feel that the states should keep a strong amount of power compared to federal because the states are closer to the people and can possibly make better decisions for their people.
Seminar reflection 9/22/2015
Our seminar group seemed to really have the same views which made it more like all of us agreeing to one answer for the teachers questions. This made it really interesting because I heard a lot of points that I didn't think of myself but I would agree with them. One student, I don't know who, said that the local and state government control problems like what is going on with our river. Keenan was also describing how the kids who live in Silverton don't really care about what is happening to the river, I found this to be kind of concerning because the people who live were the spill is don't have as much motivation to clean or fix it.
things that stood out in class 9/15/15
It was very surprising to think about how our government was built out of conflict and not at a time of peace. This seemed to lead to some irrational dissension but this was to be expected. The government was at a time of trial and error which lead to the structure we have today.
My Political Philosophy
I think that our Government is too large to work at a high level of efficacy. We should break down our Government and rather than one big leadership have multiple small Governments. I fear that our government is too strong at the moment and it is easy to tell that the people or the citizens are losing control. A great example of this would be Edward Snowden and the NSA, I bring this up because even though Edward was attempting to help everyone by letting them know that the governments watching us.This shows that the government has already broken an amendment but yet the people have done nothing about this there was no rebellion no uprising like it is stated we should do if our government becomes too powerful or corrupt.
Possible Issues for Our Class to Focus on
I think that it would be appropriate to focus on the debt that students can get in. this brings on a lot of unwanted stress and can also cause financial issues.
what is power?
Power can be a lot of things, it can be money, it can be strength or it can even be a superpower, but i would say that power comes from the people. If the people don't want a person to have power they can change it whether that would be through an uprising or even just conversation. the strongest power is that that the people give you.
4 Faces of Power
It was really interesting to me the way that we all had different ideas of how Libby and Sean would be influenced by power within there choices. There were 4 main ways that Marcus wanted us to answer, but personally i found interest in the ways people thought out side of the box. There were people talking about drug lords or even bringing time travel in the the equation and how that would change it.
