Globalization Project Reflection
In this project we researched and studied globalization, this is how the world is interconnecting with things like technology and the web all the way to companies spreading there product. This can be good and it can also be bad depending on one’s perspective. On the positive side of globalization it is inter connecting the world, it is lower the amount of wars and having people need each other. On the negative side it is destroying individualism and culture in countries especially the smaller ones, with bigger countries like the U.S.A. changing smaller countries to be like them.
I would say my biggest take away from this project is all the negative effects that globalization can have. I didn’t know what globalization was when we started this project but I saw the effects happening on the world. At first when it was pointed out to me I though “well this is a good idea.” But learning more and more through the project I started to see the negative effects.
Looking at the art piece I can see how I have changed artistically throughout this project. Throughout multiple drafts I learned how to achieve a perspective in my art piece. By changing shapes and sizes I found the best way to show power to certain people, and groups.
The writing assignment part of this project was really hard for me. The most challenging part would be the structure for me, I say this because I had a really hard time trying to organize all of the ideas I had in to paragraphs. It got to the point where it seemed that all of my separate ideas were bleeding together. To fix my problem I took my original writing and used it as a brain storm and I grouped up all of the ideas that were the same or similar and wrapped them in to a paragraph or three.

Expanding Free Trade to the Modern World
Trade has been around for a long time, as long as we can remember. As a man named Adam smith (a Scottish philosopher) clearly saw that we can benefit from imports from other countries. Such as bananas from Central America, Italia gives us shoes, Germany gives us cars, japan, our T.V. sets. We can grow economically with trading our own goods. Just as we can grow socially by connecting to other countries and creating a need for one another. Creating an agreement would also prevent wars while becoming more social to other countries.
Trade is an ever-growing subject it has been defining us as individuals and as a world. Trade expands and shares cultures and ideas to spread them across the world. Trade has its own expenses when moving across the world. And on top of that they have also been, adding tariffs, quotas, or other restrictions which can hinder trade. This is where NAFTA (North American Free Trade agreement). NAFTA was created between America, Canada and Mexico to take out the restrictions on trade between the three countries.
The TPP (Trans-pacific partnership) does almost the exact thing that NAFTA does but is expanding to other countries. The original four that signed the document were; Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, and Singapore. With four countries with makes it a very large trade agreement compared to the 3 that NAFTA has. There are many more countries and regions negotiating in the matter. Also, there are many arguments against TPP which argue about how TPP’s copyright laws being too strict. Although the copyright laws are being created to stop piracy and other objects hurting trade. This could be a big problem but it may also blow over like nothing when TPP kicks in. this brings up arguments wanting to keep NAFTA or arguments to kick NAFTA out for an updated plan.
NAFTA should be kicked out by the Americans for TPP to create a better trade agreement.
NAFTA has not grown nor expanded ever sense it was signed in 1994. If we are not growing or expanding to become one, then how can we stand with strength? TPP has still been talking and negotiating with many countries. The TPP is kept tightly hidden as explained by the Blueorigon, “There are only about 600 Americans who know the specifics of the draft” (NAFTA, BlueOregon). The fact that the government is hiding this is not a good thing, it leads people to think that they are hiding things.
With trade growing and becoming a bigger subject it is becoming harder and harder to control it. With problems occurring from trade restriction to piracy it is restricting America and other countries. Putting a trade agreement in like NAFTA or TPP will add restrictions to help prevent piracy and stolen goods.
With free trade jobs could also move out of the country putting Americas open jobs at a lower rate. It may also create more money to go to our debt or other government needs to improve our county. Fair trade is also bringing together globalization to other countries to change them economically and socially. If America enters the trade agreement it allows us to keep a closer eye on other countries that maybe gaining power and to help keep our selves ahead not only in the economic stages but the social stages too. America maybe power hungry, or even too strong for our own good but joining free trade agreements can help other countries with what we have, by allowing more goods and equipment as well as making it easier for lower end countries to sell and trade. This cuts out the government with in trading and puts it right to the company reducing cost and improving bonds between them.
With expanded free trade and being in a larger group to trade with, it opens up more products and allowing people to have a choice in their product that they choose. Having a wider range of products can either help or hinder certain company’s and may also actually create competition between the producers.
Trade today is much more complicated than before, having our government create agreements to allow trade to be free among countries has created a lot of pros and cons. Although many people may argue against making a free trade agreement I can see how it would help us and we can either let our country wither away and die or connect with others to make ourselves stronger. Our only true enemy is ourselves and if we don’t save us no one will. So what will you do?
